Camping & Fishing at French Pass Is Insane - Big Kingfish, Crazy Adventure!!!
French Pass on the Top of the South Island in New Zealand is one of the wildest camping and fishing spots in the world. Big strong currents and deep water attract top predators, such as big kingfish to this area.
There is a Top Camping area with a boat launch and we took our Jayco Journey Outback caravan over the crazy steep and narrow road to get there.
This road is not for the faint of heart and even our Ford Ranger started to moan and groan a bit at the prospect of towing a heavy Australian Caravan to this stunning location. But we made it and the mission was to catch a kingfish in this remote part of the Marlborough Sounds.
How did we do it? Watch and find out!

    do you think that boat can handle if a sting ray is on the rod or it will just pull you away bcs i want to do the same but there is really giant rays that i cant even pull up from the pier and even cant get in the crab/fish net?

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder 4 дня назад

      A big stingray would tow you around for a while with locked drag and you wouldn't be able to land it or unhook it from the boat. Eventually you would be able to get it close to the boat and then your only option would be to cut the line I think. Depends how big we're talking of course. Where I live we have stingrays over 100 pound and I would not be able to handle one like that from any small boat or kayak. But smaller ones could probably be half way lifted out the water to remove the hook. Although fishing from a little boat like that I usually use light tackle and a big ray would break off anyway.

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder 4 дня назад

      Another option is to fish with lures. I never caught a stingray on a lure, good way to avoid them.

    Hi can i ask , you’ve had a lot of experience kayak fishing & now an inflatable boat , if you could start over & just have one which would you prefer for nz conditions & fishing & if you were to buy the inflatable again knowing what you know now - would you buy this same boat or spend the extra on something like a truekit ? thank you

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder 5 дней назад

      hey mate, hard questions. I love kayak fishing, especially with a pedal kayak. Can't beat the stealth and cost effectiveness. But you got a limited range and you also depend a lot on the tides and currents. With a small boat you have an extended range and don't have to worry about currents and wind so much. Of course it depends on where you fish and how much exploring you're going to do. So yeah tough decision - at the moment I would probably tend towards the inflatable. It's good fun zooming around with it. And yeah I would buy the Aqua Marina again. I don't see any advantage of buying a True Kit. I would consider a Takacat because of the open transom. It would make it better for launching on a beach if waves crash over the bow. But considering that it is 3 times more expensive - not sure if that is enough of an advantage for me :) Hope that helps

    It looks like a good drone! But I think you would be very limited with the 1kg payload

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder 5 дней назад

      Depends what you want to do with it. For me 1kg is plenty. I usually fly out two hook rigs and that's less than 500g in total. 5 hooks wouldn't be a problem. Don't know many applications where you'd need more than a kg payload, but you'd be looking at something really expensive and cumbersome like the aero kontiki drone.

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder 5 дней назад

      the standard phnatom 3 can handle up to 500 meters. I usually go 400 meters max. The pro version can do 1 kilometre I think and the phantom 4 even more. But you really only need 300-400 meters from my experience.

      cheers mate, thanks for the tip. Yeah I watched the Glowbite video on it. But the lure will still slide off when you cast it a few times. If you just drop it over the side of the boat then it will stay in place. But it's the same with any softbait/wormhook combination. It's possible to use a small piece of paperclip around the hook eye and make a little barb to fix the flounder in place. That usually works great for me and then it won't come off even when casting.

      I don't think so - Hector Dolphins are fairly small and have black fins.

    What size boat is this

    Hey guys just a reminder that it’s a breach of Civil Aviation Regulations to fly your drone within 4 kilometres of a gazetted airfield. The Tokaanu tail race where you were flying is only 3.5 kilometres from Turangi Airfield

      Cheers for the info. The DJI mini wont let you fly in restricted zones. It would have been just outside of the zone.

      Babbles good..your not far to Hori bay in your little boat, good landbased there for your drones. You made a release for the Roku drone?

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder 13 дней назад

      @@craigwheaton2506 I might give Hori Bay a go, looks pretty good. Yeah I tried the Ruko with a bait release and it works surprisingly good. It's not the best drone for filming to be honest, but using it as a fishing drone turns it's weakness into it's strength. The motors are quite powerful and I did a couple 300 meter drops with my two hook dropper rig and 3 ounce sinker. It didn't even flinch a bit. I'm actually quite excited about it because I've been looking for a fishing drone that is very cheap, small and yet powerful. This might be it. Easy to stuff into a backpack when going for a hike, compared to the bigger fishing drones. I'll be making a video about this soon.

      @@Fishingreminder I’d be very keen on it for slidebaiting for the same reasons, fit nicely in my kayak.

    Hi Mark, Nice couple of carrots. Shame the fish finder didn't work. I've looked at those and wondered weather they're any good. Perhaps in another video we can see it in action. Regards Kevin

      Hi Kevin, yeah the deeper has been pretty good. I used mine frequently over the last 7 years and I love it. Just that the battery was getting a bit weak. Since I hardly every use it for casting and usually just drop it over the side of my boat, kayak or paddle board I thought it be cool to have it run on an external battery for extended runtime. Funny enough when I got back home it worked again. I think just the connector that I used was crap. I will give it another try in the field next week. But I also made a review of the deeper pro a while back, if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/ZQOCBNBl3B4/видео.html

    Sounds like someone trying to make it their own private beach abd area. They will pay off the council then put a gate in up the road

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder 14 дней назад

      Yeah I really hope it won't be gated up. There are not a lot of good and safe spots to launch small boats and kayaks in this area. Places like this should be accessible to the public.
